Volunteers week: Introducing…

Back to News

Posted 5th June 2017

As #VolunteersWeek continues, we turn the spotlight on another of the people helping to make sport happen in South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

Name: Emma Young

How did you first become involved with volunteering?

I applied to become a Leeds Girls Can Ambassador.

Who do you currently volunteer for and what is your role?

Leeds Girls Can (LGC). I regularly promote LGC activities and events through social media and word of mouth. I attend monthly meetings and keep up-to-date with the latest This Girl Can news. I also help out at events where possible. On top of that, I completed my Leadership in Running Fitness qualification and now lead a weekly lunchtime run for women and girls aged 14+.

How often do you volunteer on average?

Up to three hours a week on average.

Why do you volunteer?

To be a part of This Girl Can and help promote the ethos to others. I also want to give the opportunity for women to exercise together and feel safer.

What do you most enjoy about volunteering?

Being a part of a National Campaign and feeling proud of myself.

What has been your proudest moment or achievement as a volunteer?

Setting up a LGC duathlon in Middleton Park for the first time. This attracted women who had never done it before and it was amazing to see everyone giving it a go.
