Schools from Sheffield topped the medal table at the South Yorkshire School Games winter festival this week.
Schools from the district claimed 22 medals from the event, with eight gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals won across five different sports at the English Institute of Sport.
Around 1,600 young people competed for the chance to be crowned South Yorkshire champions in boccia, handball, cheerleading, gymnastics and sportshall athletics.
Rotherham schools won 15 medals, including five golds; whilst Doncaster schools returned ten medals; and there were two medals won by Barnsley schools.
The festival was opened by Paralympic legend, Hannah Cockroft MBE, who addressed the athletes at the opening ceremony and was on hand to present some of the winners with their medals.
Nigel Harrison, CEO of organisers Yorkshire Sport Foundation, said: “It was fantastic to see so many young people from across the county competing in such a great spirit.
“The festival is a great celebration of the best of school sport in South Yorkshire and we’d like to thank the volunteers and officials who helped to make it possible.”
