Yorkshire Sport Foundation (YSF) is pleased to announce Dan Wilson as the Active Partnership’s new Director of Development.
Dan joins the organisation’s senior management team having spent the last six years leading on PE and School Sport for YSF, advocating for the sector along with managing a number of Sport England funded projects.
Most recently, Dan has been instrumental in bringing together partners from across sectors to develop the ‘Creating Active Schools’ framework, which emphasises the importance of putting physical activity at the heart of a school’s ethos to tackle the challenge of inactivity in primary school children.
The framework is being tested as part of the JU:MP project in Bradford, one of twelve Sport England local delivery pilots that are trialling new and innovative ways to increase activity levels. The framework has also received interest both nationally and internationally.
As Director of Development, Dan will be responsible for nurturing and developing relationships with a variety of partners to increase the number of people being active and playing sport across South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.
Dan has worked in education for more than 16 years including teaching roles in primary, secondary and special schools in Coventry, Newcastle and London. He previously managed the Harrow School Sports Partnership, and prior to joining YSF was a local authority school adviser for PE and sport.
His personal sporting passions are athletics and football, and although currently out with a long term injury, Dan enjoys running, swimming and cycling in his spare time.
“I am extremely excited to begin working in this new role,” said Dan.
“I’m especially looking forward to working with some of the most passionate and knowledgeable people in the sector here at Yorkshire Sport Foundation, and helping to lead the development of the charity with our vision of getting everyone in South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire to be more active.”
“I am delighted that Dan has been appointed to the post of Director of Development,” added Nigel Harrison, Chief Executive at Yorkshire Sport Foundation.
“We went through a thorough and extensive recruitment process to this crucial position for us and I thank all the range of talented and experienced people who applied for the post.
“Dan has been with us a number of years and has made a great impact by working with partners to advocate PE and School Sport across Yorkshire along with introducing innovative programmes, events and training. I am sure he will use his experience and skills to broaden this impact to help raise activity levels across all of our population. His appointment signals a new phase in development for us and I know he can’t wait to get started.”
