#IWDparkrun proves popular in Potternewton

Back to News

Posted 9th March 2020

More than half of runners at Saturday’s Potternewton Park parkrun in Leeds were women, as the parkrun community celebrated International Women’s Day.

This Girl Can partnered with parkrun to encourage women to attend their local parkrun the day before the annual celebration, as parkrun’s records show that of the 1.8 million women who are registered with parkrun, 650,000 are yet to take part. Despite females making up 52% of their registrations, they only account for 44% of completed parkruns.

Yorkshire Sport Foundation, supported by Sport Leeds partners, Leeds Girls Can and Leeds Trinity, encouraged women in Leeds to get down to Potternewton Park. We took along This Girl Can t-shirts provided by Sport England for those involved to have as a memento of the day.
