Posted 8th February 2022

There will be more qualified female football coaches in Rotherham thanks to a bursary scheme as part of the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 legacy programme.

Females aged 16 and over can apply for a £160 bursary that will cover the full cost of the Football Association’s ‘Introduction to Coaching Football’ course. It is part of the plans to get more women and girls, playing, coaching and volunteering in the sport, which includes doubling the number of women coaching in the district.

Individuals already involved with a club – or looking to get involved with a club – can apply, with applications open until 11.59pm on Monday 28 February. Applications will be assessed on the impact that can be made on football in Rotherham.

“The excitement for the Women’s Euro 2022 coming to Rotherham is really beginning to build, and it will be fantastic to have some of the best players in the sport competing here in Yorkshire,” said Lisa Moseley, Development Manager at Yorkshire Sport Foundation.

“All of those players got to where they are in the sport thanks to the support of their coaches. This bursary scheme will help to increase the number of qualified coaches in Rotherham, and in turn play its part in providing more opportunities for women and girls to receive good quality coaching.”
