Investors in Diversity accreditation for Yorkshire Sport Foundation

Yorkshire Sport Foundation (YSF) is proud to have achieved the Investors in Diversity – Small Charities Award from the National Centre for Diversity.

“This is a step in the right direction to grow an inclusive and fair culture within our charity and the work we do” said CEO Nigel Harrison. “Several years ago we established an Equality Diversity and Inclusion group to look after our diversity planning, this another milestone in our improvement.”

In the accreditation process, the YSF team said they felt the principles of fairness, respect, equality, diversity, inclusion and engagement are at the heart of the charity’s strategies and work.

The mark recognises that values like fairness are important to good staff and customer relations, and policies are in place that include a commitment to ‘fairness for all.’

The team said the charity has looked at new ways to improve, including learning sessions about the challenges facing the Roma community and training in recognising unconscious bias.

Nigel added: “We know we have to do more to represent our population and will continue speaking to under-represented groups like disabled people and people from ethnically diverse communities to identify and address barriers they face.

“This accreditation reflects the efforts we put in to making Yorkshire the kindest and most inclusive place to enjoy sport and being active. We hope going through the process and sharing the findings raises awareness across the sector and with organisations we work with.”
