Streetgames: Developing yourself and other people at your sessions

These three courses from Streetgames could give you a deeper better understanding of issues that influence young people’s lives, how to challenge inactivity and how sport can tackle antisocial behaviour.


Understanding YP from Low Socio-economic backgrounds 1/11/23 5:30-8:30

This workshop will bring to life research to help learners to gain a better understanding of some of the issues that influence young people’s lives, and how this can have an impact on their sports participation levels.  This interactive workshop will draw upon experiences in the room, challenging learners to think about the young people they work with, and the wider issues that they face on a day to day basis.

By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Understand the key influences and what’s important to young people in their lives
  • Understand the importance of friendship groups and key influencers on young people when they are making lifestyle decisions
  • Understand the importance of creating a personal identity and the impact on young people’s lives
  • Understand typical participation pathways and explore young people’s journey through sport
  • Identify top tips to create the right sporting offer for young people.

Who is it for: Community sport project leaders, coaches and volunteers


Engaging inactive YP 16/11/23 5:30-8:30

There are a high number of young people from low income/lower socio-economic groups that are either inactive or not active enough for health (and wider social) benefits. This workshop will offer ideas for how you can attract inactive young people to Doorstep Sport sessions.

By the end of the workshop, learners will:

  • Understand what is meant by Inactivity and the complex nature of the subject
  • Know why it is important to understand young peoples’ lives and potential barriers to engaging with activity
  • Understand how to use behaviour change tactics such as EAST and Nudge to engage inactive youth
  • Know how to retain participants that were previously inactive

The Impact of Sport on Youth Crime and ASB Workshop 21/11/23 5:30-8:30

Developed as part of our work on the Youth Crime Impact Programme, this workshop introduces the 10 critical success factors underpinning sport-based projects.

The workshop is an interactive mix of stats, facts and case studies designed for project staff, volunteers and partners.

Understand the risk factors around young people engaging in ASB the end of the workshop learners will:

  • Be able to describe the 10 key principles of what a good youth sport intervention would look like in addressing juvenile nuisance and ASB
  • Identify opportunities for projects to get involved in the world of youth justice
  • Create an action plan of next steps
