- Helping to shape the strategic direction and operation of the organisation, and supporting an extensive network of partners and stakeholders across West Yorkshire.
- Leading the team that support the development of the place partnership collaborations across Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.
- Influencing policy, process and practice at a sub-regional level advocating for physical activity within wider agendas such as health, climate change and economic growth.
Previous Experience
James is an advocate for social justice, and the use of sport and physical activity for social change. He has worked in the region for over 20 years with roles in the charity, education and public sectors. Collaboration is central to James' approach, and he enjoys exploring opportunities to work with a wide range of partners on common agendas and shared outcomes.
A belief in lifelong learning means James is regularly seeking out new ways of working and he is currently in the process of completing an MSc in Executive Leadership at the University of Leeds. Outside of work, James is a Trustee for PSC Support and provides expertise to the Board on governance, strategic planning and income generation. As part of this work he champions the use of psychological and wellbeing support for people diagnosed with long term conditions and the use of physical activity to support positive mental health.
Keeping Active
A proud Yorkshire man, James was born and raised in Sheffield and now lives in Leeds with his wife and two daughters. He can usually be found running, walking or cycling around his local area, taking trips to the amazing surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales and Peak district and exploring new destinations with family and friends.
