Physical activity ambition for Leeds: A place where everyone moves more every day

Leeds' Best City Ambition sets out a mission to tackle poverty and inequality and improve quality of life for everyone who calls Leeds home. Delivering the physical activity vision plays a major role in achieving the city ambition.

The ambition is being led by a group of senior representatives from across Leeds City Council, health bodies and a range of other anchor organisations. Its role is to promote a culture of collaboration, ensure physical activity and sport is embedded within city wide policies and strategies and together find solutions to difficult issues.

The work is based upon the findings of a resident survey of 20,000 people around four themes:

  • Active Society
  • Active Environment
  • Active People and
  • Active Systems

Sport Leedswhich was established in 2002 concentrates on the sporting element of the Ambition. Since its inception it has become a dynamic sports network with a strong reputation in the city and region. It serves as the strategic partnership for organisations involved in promoting and developing sports and active recreation in Leeds.

The network includes professional and amateur sports clubs, universities, colleges, school clusters, and other important sporting organisations from within the city, region, and beyond
