Health and care
Health and care is one of the vision themes in our strategy. We believe that physical activity can play a major role within health and care systems so that everyone can enjoy more healthy years of life.
We can make this happen through three main areas:
Clinical and community pathways
Integrating physical activity into health and care pathways is key to the treatment, management and prevention of long-term health conditions. By embedding physical activity into clinical and community pathways people can be supported to be active in a way that suits them while supporting their physical and mental health. Examples include cancer prehabilitation and rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and falls prevention.
Workforce
The starting point for trusted advice on long-term conditions and physical activity is often the NHS and health care workforce. Health and care professionals need to feel knowledgeable and supported if they want to embed movement and physical activity in their practice, through training, resources and good relationships with physical activity organisations.
Population Health and Prevention
Regular physical activity provides significant physical and mental health benefits. We need to collectively work to ensure that everybody can be active with specific focus on supporting people who are physically inactive and most likely to experience inequalities. It will require a whole-of-society approach and creating environments that make it easier and safer for everyone to be more active in ways that matter to them.
Our work across health and care takes many different forms and is based on local priorities. If you would like a chat about how we are working in your district or county, contact the appropriate person below.
We've also put together a variety of learning resources for you to consider.
