There has been a small change in the Sport Welfare team!

Douglas has taken a secondment to cover our colleague Katy's maternity leave as People and Skills Development Manager. He'll still work with us for part of his week and will continue to support clubs that he already has a relationship with. For any new enquiries from South Yorkshire clubs please contact Nicola.


Keeping your Child Safe in Sport Week – 6 to 12 October

Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport 2025

The Sport Welfare team are getting involved and will be running the following sessions:

Nicola is hosting parent and practitioner awareness webinars for Leeds Safeguarding Children Partnership. Sessions will take place on Tuesday 7 October from 12.30pm to 1pm and on Wednesday 9 October from 6.30pm to 7pm via Microsoft Teams. Book a place here.

Measha is running a Safeguarding Welfare in Sport Information Session with Wakefield Safeguarding Children Partnership for those who work or volunteer in sports environments. This takes place on Tuesday 7 October from 6pm to 7pm via Microsoft Teams. Find out more here.

A few months ago we told you about an Active Bystander video that we'd worked on with Buddle.

Kooth Mental Health Support

Kooth.com is a great resource for children and young people who need support with their mental health and emotional wellbeing.

The team over at Kooth are holding some information sessions for parents and professionals to find out more about their service. The booking links for each of the sessions are:

Sport Welfare Connect

Final call for anyone who wants to attend our autumn Sport Welfare Connect networking sessionon Monday 6 Oct from 6pm to 7.30pm

We've taken feedback from previous attendees around content. Although this session is focussed on supporting people who are neurodivergent, presentation time will be reduced and there will be lots of time to chat with each other and ask questions.

We're delighted to have Danny Matharu as our guest speaker. He trains staff and produces resources for sports clubs to support their players. He'll be giving us a small taster of his usual training session and will provide a digital handout for you to take away.

Leeds JogOn – Safety when Running

Leeds City Council, the Safer Leeds Partnership, Get Set Leeds Local and Yorkshire Sport Foundation have collaborated on a campaign to ensure everyone in Leeds feels confident and supported when out running.

Following their Darker Nights webinar which took place on Monday 29 September, Nicola is offering a number of Active Bystander training sessions throughout October and November. You can find out more and book a place here.

World Mental Health Day is a chance to raise awareness of mental health issues, encourage support and reduce stigma.
