Environmental sustainability starts at grassroots level

YSF take our commitments to protecting the environment seriously, we recognise that a sustainable environment and people’s health and wellbeing are closely connected.

Too many people face barriers to active and healthy lives. The same people are more likely to experience the worst effects of climate change and its impact on the environment – such as poor air quality, flooding and rising maintenance costs.

Together with partners we are focused on tackling inequalities, so everyone across South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire has the opportunity and support to be more active and sustainable.

Funding is available through the Movement Fund to help sport and physical activity organisations adapt to climate change and protect participation.

YSF is also part of the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission, an independent advisory body that brings together a wide range of people from the public, private and third sectors to support, facilitate and enable the delivery of ambitious climate action across Yorkshire and the Humber.

Our Environmental Sustainability Action Plan shows how we will deliver our intentions. The plan is built on two guiding principles:

  • To manage our organisational activities in an environmentally sustainable way.

  • To advocate the value of sport, physical activity and movement in creating a more environmentally sustainable world. We will focus on connecting, supporting and influencing partners to prioritise environmental sustainability and enable everyone to enjoy the benefits of an active life, now and in the future.

Carl Hawkes YSF CEO said: "Our vision of a vibrant, healthy and prosperous Yorkshire through everyone moving more depends on a healthy environment.  We know that our environment – the spaces, places and nature in our communities – affects and is affected by how we move, how people are active across Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Sport Foundation is committed to becoming a more environmentally sustainable organisation, supporting our partner to do the same, and advocating for the close relationship between human and planetary health.

By improving our own sustainability, supporting partners, influencing investment, advocating for change, and supporting the creation of more active environments, Yorkshire Sport Foundation will play its part in the health and sustainability of our communities, now and in the future.”
