Safe in Sport Day

Weve taken the Pledge 01

Today is Safe Sport Day, which is promoted by the UK-based global charity Safe Sport International (SSI).

SSI are asking organisations to take the International Safeguards for Children in Sport pledge to commit to working towards safe sport for every child and promote and embed safeguarding through their work. You can also show your commitment to safeguarding adults by signing the International Safeguards for Adults in Sports pledge too.

At Yorkshire Sport Foundation we have signed the pledges in recognition that it is an absolute right that children, young people and adults are safe whilst participating in sport in South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire.

If you’d like to improve your safeguarding and welfare practice, or would like to share the good work you’re doing to make your sport or activity safer, then please contact our Sport Welfare Officers. Nicola, Measha and Douglas have been in post for six months and are part of a network of 63 Sport Welfare Officers across England. Their role is to help clubs and activity providers to move from safeguarding and welfare compliance to culture. They can support with:

·         Training – Delivering or facilitating training and workshops for staff, volunteers, parents and participants, in person or online on a variety of sport-specific and safeguarding topics.

·         Critical friend – Help with self-assessments to ensure you are meeting the safeguarding and welfare requirements set out by National Governing Bodies.

·         Signposting – Directing you to appropriate services and sources of support from partner organisations.

·         Networks – Making connections for people to share news, information and best practice.

·         Events – Attending events to raise awareness of safeguarding and wellbeing amongst participants.

All the support they provide is free. Even if you don’t need support right now, the team would love to hear from you and find out more about your club or activity. You can find contact details on our website.
