Lioness Unity Cup comes to Manningham
Together with West Riding County FA and Bradford Council, Yorkshire Sport Foundation are running the Lioness Unity Cup on Sunday 2 June at Manningham Leisure Centre in Bradford.
The tournament is aimed at bringing together new womens teams and their volunteers to support the development of football within historically under represented groups within the football community.
The recreational tournament will see teams from across West Yorkshire take part with the focus on creating a friendly and inclusive environment to support more people into the game.
Following the tournament, volunteers from each team are invited to the first ever England Football Volunteering conference at St George’s Park.
Bringing together volunteers from across the country to inspire and upskill volunteers that take on the administrative part of the game and form the backbone of football across England.
Becca Gallagher, Development manager at Yorkshire Sport Foundation. “Volunteers are the backbone of football, without them the game wouldn’t be where it is today. Supporting more women to take up volunteer roles will continue to help grow the game. Through this tournament and the wider project we are engaging more volunteers and providing them with training and support so that they can inspire the next generation of Lionesses.”
The tournament is part of a volunteer pilot programme within the FA, working with 5 county FA’s of which West Riding CFA is one. The tournament is being funded by FIFA and aims to for more volunteers with greater diversity that are better supported within the game.
