New guidance to help community organisations support neurodiverse young people

StreetGames is proud to have worked with Neurodiverse Sport to develop a range of new resources to help community organisations provide positive, inclusive support for neurodiverse young people.

Findings from the StreetGames 1,000 Young Voices research revealed that 29% of young people identified as neurodivergent. Community organisations highlighted a need for greater understanding of neurodiversity to help ensure they could provide the best possible support and experiences for the young people they work with.

In response, StreetGames partnered with Neurodiverse Sport to explore the needs and experiences of neurodivergent young people. Working alongside young people, community organisations, coaches, leaders and experts from charities, National Governing Bodies and professional sports organisations, the project helped develop a shared understanding of what effective neuroinclusive practice looks like in sport and physical activity settings.

Over the coming months, StreetGames will be sharing a series of easy-to-follow infographics, providing practical guidance and tips on a range of neurodiversity topics. The resources are designed to help organisations create more inclusive, welcoming and supportive environments for all young people.

Building on the insights from the project, Neurodiverse Sport has also developed a free online course, giving community organisations and practitioners the knowledge, tools and confidence to make sport and physical activity more neuroinclusive. The course is available now and can be accessed free of charge.

By listening to lived experiences and working collaboratively with partners, StreetGames is helping more young people feel understood, supported and able to enjoy the many benefits of sport and physical activity.
