New figures show activity levels at record high
More than 30 million adults in England are now meeting the recommended levels of physical activity, including millions taking part in sport, as participation continues to steadily rise.
The latest Active Lives Adult Survey Report, covering the period between November 2024 and November 2025, shows that 64.6% of adults (30.9 million people) met the Chief Medical Officers’ guidelines of doing 150 minutes, or more, of moderate intensity physical activity a week.
That’s an increase of 859,000 adults compared to the previous 12 months.
However, while overall activity levels continue to improve, the data highlights that significant inequalities persist, with some groups and communities still far less likely to be active than others.
YSF CEO Carl Hawkes said: "Today’s Active Lives results are encouraging, with more people across England getting active and it’s positive to see the continued leadership from Sport England in championing a more active nation. In South Yorkshire and West Yorkshire we know the picture isn’t the same for everyone. Too many of our communities still face barriers linked to inequality, health and opportunity that make it harder to be active.
"Across our area, we’re working with partners to change the conditions around people so that being active is easier, more accessible and part of everyday life. Our focus remains on those who stand to benefit the most, because real success is when every community across Yorkshire feels the positive impact of a more active nation."
