Sporting Futures: Empowering Young People Across Yorkshire

sporting futures

Over the past few months, Disability Sport Yorkshire has proudly delivered the Sporting Futures programme in partnership with four incredible club foundations:

  • Sheffield United Foundation,
  • Rotherham Titans Foundation,
  • Sheffield Eagles Foundation, and
  • Harrogate Town Foundation.

Through a mix of hands-on learning, job role exploration, and real-world volunteering experiences, participants across Sheffield, Rotherham, and Harrogate have taken major steps in their personal and professional development.

Programme Highlights
• Average rating across all programmes: 4.8 out of 5
• Over 80% of participants expressed interest in volunteering or working with DSY or their host club in the future
• Skill development and understanding of job roles were rated ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very Good’ by most participants
But it wasn’t just about learning, it was also about giving back.

Giving Back to the Community
Participants organised and ran fundraising initiatives, including bake sales, smoothie stalls, and community engagement events.
Together, they raised over £400 in support of:
• Sheffield Children’s Hospital
• Harrogate Food Bank (Trussell Trust)
• Rotherham Hospice
This effort reflects the generosity, initiative, and teamwork of every young person involved in the programme.
