National partners come together in Bradford to share physical activity learning
Bradford played host to the 'Sharing the Learning: Place-Based Working for Children and Young People' event, bringing together partners from across the UK to share experiences and approaches to whole systems physical activity.
Held at The Life Centre, JU:MP (the Bradford Place Partner) and Sport England, welcomed delegates for a day of presentations, interactive discussions and workshops, and valuable networking opportunities.
The event focused on three key areas transforming the approach to children's physical activity: JU:MP's latest research findings, strategies for creating active schools, and most importantly, amplifying children's voice and influence in physical activity initiatives. Workshops delivered on the day ranged from the broad approach places are using for evaluation and learning, how the built and natural environment influences children's ability to be active through to youth voice and how it can influence systems and be implemented at a local level.
The focus on place-based working highlighted how local partnerships can create environments where physical activity becomes naturally embedded in young people's daily lives. Bradford's role as host city underscored the district's commitment to improving physical activity in children and young people. The event's emphasis on children's voice and influence marked a significant shift towards ensuring that physical activity initiatives are shaped by the young people they aim to serve, rather than designed for them without their input.
As delegates departed, the consensus was clear: the collaborative approach provides a blueprint for creating sustainable, young person-centred physical activity systems across the UK.
