The Patchwork Programme helps bring physical literacy to life

The Patchwork Programme is a funded 9-month creative accelerator helping teams create creating positive, meaningful movement experiences for children and young people.

A spark fired back in 2023 when Sport England co-developed and launched the Physical Literacy Consensus Statement with 60 academics and stakeholders. Advocates for positive movement experiences saw it as a chance for alignment in England and a means for real, systemic change.

The Consensus Statement gives a shared set of language, but we all knew it had to be backed up with action – at scale. This programme accelerates that change in a nine-month, creative learning and development programme for twelve interdisciplinary teams. The twelve teams are supported to put physical literacy philosophies into practice for the children and young people (CYP) who need them most

Cohort 1 brought together 36 organisations who valued the protected space to reflect, learn, and shape new ways of helping children build a positive, meaningful relationship with movement, activity and sport for life.

Now they’re looking for 12 cross-sector teams to join Cohort 2 who share a common purpose to inspire a generation that loves to move using physical literacy and youth voice as enablers for change.
