Active Changemakers: shaping the future of community sport
The project brings together a collection of authentic stories, told through a series of powerful interviews, each capturing the belief that sport is for everyone, and everyone has a part in shaping it.
At its heart, the Active Changemakers project was created to:
- Highlight the impact of community sport by demonstrating the power of inclusive clubs, supportive coaches and welcoming environments
- Celebrate the everyday heroes driving change, from coaches to participants, each person plays a part in strengthening community sport
- Inspire underrepresented young people to volunteer or work at their local community sport club.
The series explores the themes of journey, belonging and impact, offering a window into what inclusive sport means for both individuals and communities.
Introducing the Active Changemakers!
Episode One - Abbie from NICAS (National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes)
Abbie speaks passionately about making climbing accessible for everyone and breaking down barriers in the sport. She speaks openly about unlocking your potential, challenging first impressions and overcoming the fear that often comes with trying something new.
Episode Two - Mollie from the Worcester Whizzards Powerchair Football Club
Mollie opens up about her journey into community sport, the barriers she faced and the confidence she has discovered along the way. Her story shows the transformative power of inclusive environments for young people finding their place in sport.
Episode Three - Emma from Safe Haven Basketball Club
Emma tells the story of establishing a community basketball club for her daughter Grace, and how Safe Haven has grown into a supportive, empowering space for young people to thrive, both on and off the court.
The Active Changemakers project is more than a series, it is an invitation to step into community sport, support others and help build a future where every young person feels they belong.
Be inspired, get involved and make change!
