Communities and cohesion, bringing people together

Sixty partners from across the region came to Leeds for a Sharing the Learning workshop focussed on supporting strong and inclusive communities.

This session brought together a rich mix of national, regional, and local voices to explore how sport and physical activity can strengthen community cohesion, build resilience, and support safer, more connected places.

Speakers shared insight and practical experience, including:

  • The Community Cohesion Unit at MHCLG, discussing their work and its relationship with Pride in Place.
  • The Independent Commission on Community Cohesion shared their work to strengthen social cohesion, community connectedness, and resilience.
  • The Manchester Violence Reduction Unit offered perspectives on prevention, partnership, and place-based approaches
  • And partners from across Yorkshire & the Humber shared local examples of supporting safer and stronger communities.

YSF's Strategic Director Amanda Potter who works across Yorkshire and Humber said: "The Sharing the Learning series provides an space to engage with different elements of whole systems working and ‘place-based’ approaches. It was great to see so many come to the workshop to learn from each other and explore opportunities for future collaboration."
