Proud to be Smokefree Sport & Leisure
Proud to be Smokefree Sport & Leisure is a new program that helps to make sure children and young people don't see people smoking or vaping, so they won't want to start.
Why is this important? When children don't see smoking or vaping, they are less likely to start doing it. We want to create places where children and young people play, learn, and grow up without seeing smoking or vaping.
How can clubs join? There is a free toolkit to help clubs become smokefree. It has lots of resources, including fun activities, a smokefree policy, and ideas to share with parents. These can be used to spread the smokefree message in any club. There are also awards for clubs and a certificate for becoming smokefree.
The goals are:
- To make sport and leisure clubs a healthy and welcoming place for everyone, especially children.
- To help adults involved in youth sports to understand their role in setting a good example.
If you have questions or need help getting started, you can email proudtobesmokefree@wakefield.gov.uk or call 07826 548443.
