We hope you’ve had a great start to 2025, despite the snow and ice earlier this month and the storm over the last few days.
There are lots of national health and wellbeing campaigns taking place in January and February that we’ll be promoting. If you’d like support to get involved too then have a look at the information below or get in touch with us for a chat. Our contact information is at the bottom of the newsletter and on our webpage.
Rage Against Dementia Day – 21 January
Founded by Sir Jackie Stewart OBE, after his wife Helen’s frontotemporal dementia diagnosis, Race Against Dementia funds early-career researchers to accelerate progress towards a cure for dementia.
The three of us are keen to help clubs and activity providers to support any of their members or participants who may be living with dementia or other conditions associated with aging. We’ll be undertaking training to become Dementia Friends and will share this learning with others in workshops and awareness sessions.
If you’d like more information on supporting your members with conditions associated with aging please get in touch.

Campaigns Week – 3 to 7 February
There are some big national campaigns taking place at the start of February and we’ll be getting involved to raise awareness.
- The theme of this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is ‘Know Yourself, Grow Yourself’ and is encouraging children to speak about, and be aware of, their emotions. Place2Be’s downloadable schools pack has suggestions for activities which could be used in a sport club or activity group setting. Measha will be speaking about mental health and emotional wellbeing in a 30-minute lunch and learn session taking place on Tuesday 4 February at 12.30pm. Book a place here.
- #EveryActionCounts for Race Equality Week. Race Equality Matters have produced some resources that you can use. What actions are you taking at your club or activity to ensure you’re inclusive and anti-racist? Find out how Yorkshire Sport can help you to make changes by joining Douglas for a 30-minute webinar on Friday 7 February from 12pm. Book a place here.
- Safer Internet Day takes place on 6 February. One of our most common queries from clubs is around the use of social media and communication platforms. The CPSU have some great guidance and model policies that you can use and share with your members. Join Nicola for a 30-minute webinar on this topic on Thursday 6 February at 3pm. Book a place here.
- The British Heart Foundation encourage people to learn CPR during February for Heart Month. Some sports facilities now have access to a defibrillator. You can find out more about how to use one via this link. Around 60,000 Sudden Cardiac Arrests (SCA) happen every year in the UK, 12 each week are under the age of 35. UK Coaching have a free online course to help you respond quickly and appropriately to a sudden cardiac arrest.

Bradford Safeguarding and Welfare in Sport Session – 11 February
In collaboration with Bradford Safeguarding Children Partnership, Measha is inviting club welfare officers, coaches, committee members and volunteers from clubs and activity providers in the Bradford area to join her for an in-person session on safeguarding and welfare in sport. This will take place on Tuesday 11 February from 6.30 to 8.00pm at Carlisle Business Centre. Book a place here.
