The Move More Conference 2026 opened with Professor Liz Mossop, Vice Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University, warmly welcoming delegates. She spoke passionately about the university’s commitment to health, wellbeing, and community partnerships, highlighting the importance of bringing together academia, local authorities, and community organisations to drive meaningful change. Her words reinforced the shared mission of everyone in the room.

Followed by an inspiring keynote from Steven Pleasant, Chair of the NCSEM Partnership Board and Health Advisor to Oliver Coppard, SYMCA Mayor. Steven set the tone for the day by emphasising the critical role of physical activity in improving public health, tackling inequalities, and building stronger, healthier communities across South Yorkshire. His message was clear: collaboration and innovation are essential if we are to truly “move more” and transform lives.

The energy in the room then lifted as Tracey Barnes from Dancing for Health CIC took to the stage to lead a vibrant morning activator. Through movement and music, Tracey reminded everyone of the joy and accessibility of physical activity. Laughter and participation filled the space, setting a lively and inclusive tone for the rest of the day.

Looking back on the event, Tom Hughes - YSF Sheffield Development Manager said:

"It was fantastic to bring the second annual Move More Conference to life, building on the incredible success of our inaugural event in 2025.

"It was inspiring to see people from across the physical activity, sport, health and education sectors come together at Sheffield Hallam University Business School — to learn, share their knowledge and forge new connections.

"We look forward to continuing this momentum and building on our success to create a happier, healthier and more connected Sheffield.

"The day featured 28 workshops led by inspiring people, projects, and leaders from across the city. A huge thank you to all of them — the conference simply wouldn’t be possible without their passion and contribution."

Sincere thanks are also extended to the outstanding team behind the conference, including YSF Development Managers - Rachael Weston and Tom Hughes, Andy Cox - Director of Sport at the University of Sheffield, Adam Barr - Sheffield Hallam University, Kathryn Mudge - Sheffield City Council and Chris Bailey- Chief Executive of Sheffield United Community Foundation. Their collaborative efforts in delivering the conference, and their strong partnership, exemplify the very essence of Move More: different sectors working together to inspire change across the city.
