Move More Fartown builds momentum

The Move More Fartown project continues to grow, with more opportunities for residents and organisations to get involved in shaping the future of physical activity in their area.

Following the success of the first workshop in March, Local Services To You (LS2Y) delivered the second Move More Fartown workshop, returning to the Chestnut Centre in Sheepridge to see how the project is continuing to gain real momentum within the community.

Building on the foundations laid in Workshop One, this second session marked a clear shift from conversation to action.

From Listening to Doing

The initial workshop brought together residents, community groups, and local organisations to share their experiences of physical activity across Fartown and the Leeds Road areas. These discussions created a valuable space for honest reflection, highlighting a range of barriers that make it harder for people to move more in their daily lives.

Key challenges raised included:

  • Limited access to safe and welcoming spaces
  • Issues around local infrastructure
  • Social and personal barriers that can prevent people from being active

These insights played a crucial role in shaping the direction of Workshop Two.

Turning Ideas Into Action

With community voices at the forefront, Workshop Two focused on developing a practical and achievable action plan. Attendees worked collaboratively to explore potential solutions, prioritise the most pressing issues, and begin transforming ideas into concrete steps that can deliver lasting change.

The session encouraged shared ownership, with participants contributing local knowledge and lived experience to ensure proposed actions were realistic, inclusive, and rooted in the needs of the area.

Community‑Led Change at the Heart of the Project

A central theme of the Move More Fartown project is ensuring that change is genuinely community‑led. By placing decision‑making power in the hands of those who live and work locally, the project aims to create meaningful, sustainable improvements that reflect what residents actually want and need.

This approach not only builds stronger solutions but also helps foster pride, connection, and long‑term engagement within the community.
