Skills boost to challenge inequality and get people moving

A new resource has been launched to help people working in sport and physical activity to challenge inequalities and get more people moving.

The Workforce Resource Pack has been designed by Yorkshire Sport Foundation, StreetGames and Sported for use by anyone delivering activities to in their community. It focusses on inclusivity, raising mental health awareness, and supporting people with disabilities and the LGBTQ+ community.

The idea to pull these resources together came from feedback at a community event last year, and with these three focus areas above identified as those in which staff felt the least confident came up the lowest confidence.

Katy Fillingham, People and Skills lead at YSF said: Yorkshire Sport Foundation, Street Games and Sported came together to support our networks across Yorkshire. We are bringing together training resources that people said they needed to improve workforce and practice.

This will help organisations find training to develop staff, build confidence and knowledge, and put in all into practice.

Kate Roberts, StreetGames Training Lead for Yorkshire & Humber, said: “We are delighted to have collaborated with like-minded partners on this resource. We firmly believe that an effective and upskilled workforce is crucial to ensuring that every young person living in a low-income, underserved neighbourhood can access the right sporting offer for their needs, and this pack will be an incredibly useful tool in supporting that goal.”

Paul Steele, Sported Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Manager said: I am pleased to have built on our collective work with Streetgames and Yorkshire Sport to provide additional resources to support the sector, we have collectively listened to the needs of organisations and hope the new resource will be of value.
