Statement by the Chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Anti-Racism in Sport Group

On 9 July during a Westminster Hall Debate, Naz Shah MP (Bradford West) brought up a matter on behalf of Onna Ju Jitsu club about British Ju Jitsu Association (BJJA).

This case has led to BJJA being reviewed by Sport England and other home country sports councils in relation to their designation as a recognised NGB. As a result of the review the BJJA have been required to carry out a number of changes.

As chair of the Yorkshire and Humber Anti Racism in Sport Group, Fatima Khan Shah issued this statement :  
"The Yorkshire and Humber Anti-Racism in Sport Group was established in 2022 to combat racism in sport at all levels and for Yorkshire and Humber to be the kindest, friendliest and anti-racist place to enjoy sport. 
"As the recently elected chair of this group, and inclusivity champion for the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin, it is my deep commitment to tackle racism and to help shape an equitable society. 
"The Yorkshire and Humber Anti-Racism in Sport Group welcomes the opportunity for Sport England to review its policy for recognising sporting bodies and offer our support in this process. 
"We trust that this will be progressed as a priority and look forward to embedding learning around best practice into our networks.""
